Irish American Unity Conference Denounces Anti-Semitic Attack on Pittsburgh Jewish Community

WASHINGTON DC…October 30, 2018. The Irish American Unity Conference condemns in the strongest terms the vicious attack on the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, and expresses its solidarity with the American Jewish community at this time of sorrow. We reject the anti-Semitic hatred which precipitated the attack and denounce comments by politicians and others that convey, intentionally or not, encouragement to perpetrators of such heinous deeds. Words matter, especially the words of our leaders whom people follow for good or ill. We agree with the Anti-Defamation League that “Even if unintentional, politicians and pundits repeating these unsubstantiated conspiracies essentially validate the same hateful myths propagated by anti-Semites.”

Bigotry of any stripe has no place in the United States or anywhere and must be firmly rejected, strongly condemned, and vigorously resisted whenever, wherever, and however it occurs. The attack on Jewish worshipers is an attack on all of us. The IAUC shares the grief of its Jewish friends and comrades in justice, and affirms its commitment to our country’s principles of freedom of thought, religion, and assembly for all people.

The IAUC is a non-sectarian, non-profit human rights organization whose mission is to advocate for peace and justice in a reunited Ireland. www.iauc.org. Contact: Peter Kissel, peterkissel@kisselaw.com.
