IAUC Leaders Discuss Brexit and Good Friday Agreement With Irish Ambassador

IAUC National President Peter Kissel, Treasurer Kevin Barry, Board Members Ed Walsh, Leslie Cassidy, and Tom Carney, and member activists Mike Carney and Kathleen Walsh met with Irish Ambassador Dan Mulhall and the Embassy’s Political Director Brian Cahalane on Wednesday, October 1, to express the IAUC’s concerns over Brexit’s threat to the Good Friday Agreement and peace in Ireland. The delegation reminded their hosts that the Irish Government, as a co-guarantor of the GFA, must hold the UK to its legal obligations thereunder. They also presented the Ambassador with a copy of the Martin McGuinness Principles, which are based on the key commitments which the UK’s has failed to meet — a Bill of Rights for the North of Ireland, legal recognition of the Irish language, legacy inquest funding, and the right of self-determination regarding Irish unity.
