IAUC Condemns Recent Killings in the North
The IAUC has joined the chorus of voices condemning the recent killings of British soldiers by dissident republican groups in the north of Ireland.
The groups responsible for the murders of Stephen Carroll, Mark Quinsey, and Patrick Azimkar have no political mandate, no community support, and are not at all interested in the process of peace-building. Their actions also belie their purported belief in the struggle for a united Ireland.
All parties to the peace process are unequivocal in their belief that the actions of these small groups of dissidents will not shake the solid foundation of peace that has been years in the making.
Yesterday’s answers will not provide today’s solutions. True transformative change requires courage and vision–concepts foreign to those who participated in these murders. Justice and equity, the protection of human rights, freedom from fear and good governance are the real stepping stones to sustainable peace and a united Ireland.
The IAUC extends our deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased.
