March 15, 2010, 6:30pm: New York: Migration and Memory: American Irish Consciousness Since the Famine, O'Lunney's at Times Square, 145 W 45th St. The event will explore a range of themes emanating from the shock of an event which transformed Ireland and generated a massive influx of its surviving population to the US. The impact of the Famine reverbates 160 years after its conventional endpoint, not least in the form of a massive and diverse Irish diaspora present in every sector of society. Participants include Irish artist Robert Ballagh, Dr. Christine Kineally, Michael Patrick MacDonald, and Dr. Ruan O'Donnell.  Event organized by Owen Rodgers and Dr. O'Donnell.  Free and open to the public.
 
March 18, 2010: Washington, DC: St. Patrick's Day Reception and portrait unveiling of human rights attorney Patrick Finucane. Hosted by the Irish Echo and Congressman Richie Neal. With Irish artist Robert Ballagh and guest of honor Geraldine Finucane. Hosted by Terry George, featuring Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!, Black 47, Moya Brennan, Seanchai and Unity Squad, Haitian Rara band Brother High Kanaval, Mary Courtney & Morningstar, Ashley Davis, Jameson's revenge, Colum McCann, Amy Goodman (Democracy Now!), TJ English, Geraldine Hughes, Malachy McCourt, Gary Schteyngart, Michael Patrick MacDonald, and more special guests. $30 suggested donation, with all proceeds going to Concern's work in Haiti.
 
February 16, 2010, 7:30pm: New York: Oiche le Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, New York Irish Center, 10-40 Jackson Ave, Long Island City. Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, CEO of the Belfast Media Group and publisher of the Irish Echo & the Andersontown News, will be reading from his latest book on business and entrepreneurship, Stró an Ghnó, Parabail Fiontraíochta, and discussing other subjects, such as journalism, the Irish language in the North of Ireland, and issues of every kind.
This is a bilingual, Irish/English event.  Free and open to the public.

January 30, 2010, 10am: New York: The Lessons of Ireland's Great Famine, American Irish Historical Society. Topic is the Great Irish Famine Curriculum and the Lessons of Ireland's Great Hunger. October 10, 2009, 2pm: New York: Walking tour of lower Manhattan featuring points of interest to the Irish language in the city.  Hosted by Daithí MacLochlainn.  Meet at South Street Seaport Museum, 19 Front Street.  Free, but there is an entrance fee for those interested in going into the museum.  Tour lasts about 2 to 3 hours.  
October 10, 2009, 7pm: New York: The Irish Language and Equality in the North of Ireland, Glucksman Ireland House at New York University, One Washington Mews. Featured speaker: Belfast solicitor Michael Flanigan will discuss his recent High Court challenge to the 1737 Administration of Justice (Ireland) Act, which prohibits the use of Irish in the court system, as well as other equality issues facing the Irish-speaking community in the North.  With special guests: Domhnall O'Cathain of the Brehon Law Society, Mike Breen, Director of Mary's Gift Irish Language Foundation, and a special message from Pobal, the Belfast-based umbrella organization for Irish language groups in the North.
