About Us
The Irish American Unity Conference is a nationwide, nonpartisan, nonsectarian, chapter-based human rights organization working for justice and peace in Ireland. We are an American 501c(4) organization which advocates the end of British colonial occupation and the peaceful reunification of Ireland. We work to educate the American public in general and decision makers in particular about human and civil rights abuses in Northern Ireland. We sponsor forums, seminars, video presentations and nationwide speaking tours by internationally recognized individuals. We disseminate information and foster involvement in the political process via the Internet. We sponsor trips by Members of Congress to Ireland to investigate first-hand the causes of injustice there. With coordination with our National Board, our members advocate for and participate in congressional hearings on important human and civil rights issues. We assess and analyze printed news reports on Ireland and encourage activists to challenge inaccurate and biased reporting.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Irish American Unity Conference is to bring all Irish, Irish Americans and others together on the basis of their common belief in Justice and Peace in a reunited Ireland.
We acknowledge and accede to the right of all the Irish people to self-determination and are fully confident that given the opportunity, they will choose to live, respectful of the human and civil rights of all, in a sovereign and independent nation free of domination by Britain.
IAUC Goals
We Believe: In the Peaceful reunification of Ireland as top priority;
That the Irish people have the right to national self-determination;
In supporting the positions of American Political candidates who bring pressure on England to withdraw its troops from Irish soil;
That the British-generated Ulster Problem is a danger to the Anglo-American alliance.;
In supporting American legislation that will facilitate Irish national and economic development, including bills;
To call on the US to ban American companies in Northern Ireland from discriminating on religious grounds, and to adopt the MacBride Principles as a guide for fair employment;
To call on the US to cut off all military aid to England which may be used, or may free monies to be used for oppression in Northern Ireland;
To overturn the US/UK Extradition Treaty;
To endorse an immigration program that does not discriminate against the Irish;
To end the policy of visa denial that prevents many Irish from entering the US to tell their stories;
To establish stringent controls on US foreign aid to Ireland to guarantee that it benefits those who need it most;
To establish stringent controls on American taxpayer money invested in Ireland and to withhold the money until a timetable for withdrawl of British troops is set and the country united.
